Study for the drawing of The Betrayal by Stanley Spencer

The drawing presents a religious motive with a spiritual element. In which the interpretation of a the events of a biblical story are placed into the environment of Cookham where the artist lived most of his life. The drawing presents a composition filled with translucent figures against a brick wall. The drawing formed the bases for a painting of the same title, which includes recognisable figures close to Spencer and from Cookham.
