Composition Study by David Bomberg


Although Bomberg's approach to the figure is similar to that of Vorticists such as Wyndham Lewis in its pared down mechanistic rendering of human form, Bomberg was never formally associated with the group although he exhibited with them in 1915. This drawing relates to a large series of pen and ink figure sketches that Bomberg completed between 1919 and 1921 and develops from the geometricized abstracted figures of his 1914 painting The Mud Bath
